Historique :	Nicolas Boucher, né à Cernay-en-Dormois le 14 novembre 1528 et mort le 19 avril 1593 est fils de laboureur. Il fait ses études à Paris et devient un familier de la famille de Guise. Il fréquente François de Guise et son frère l'évêque de Lorraine auquel il doit sa nomination à l'Université de Lunéville. Il leur restera très proche jusqu'à la mort des Guise de Blois. Il est attaché à la Ligue et lutte pour la Contre Réforme en écrivant des ouvrages de théologie. Dans son testaments du 15/1/1586, il décide d'être enterré dans la cathédrale de Verdun et de léguer à sa ville natale son coeur. Ce qui est assez exceptionnel. De même il fait don d'un calice qui est parvenu jusqu'à nous et qui a été classé en 1995.
